Information Architect
Rock Creek Strategic Marketing, a branding and communications firm in Chevy Chase, MD, is seeking a full-time information architect. You will work closely with our clients as well as our creative, technical, and strategy departments to architect structure, data interactions, and outline requirements and specifications for Drupal-based web projects. An ideal candidate will be taking the lead on our most complex technical IA projects and comprehensively creating the structure of the site pages, content, and data interactions and working closely with developers and technologists to define the specifications for implementation. The information architect will capture client requirements, evaluate stakeholder needs and wants, and incorporate that feedback into site structure and design. This position requires a deep understanding of web and systems architecture coupled with interactive creativity.
Core Competencies
Content:
- Experience inventorying content
- Ability to identify content for deletion, migration, and adaptation into a CMS
- Experience identifying content redundancies and gaps
- Ability to understand relationships among content and developing the overall schema for organizing content
- Experience with planning and conducting stakeholder interviews about content, data, and overall structure
- Experience planning, conducting and analyzing card sorting activities, focus groups, and other usability testing activities and incorporating target audience feedback into site structure and design
Technical:
- Experience planning the organization schema for content and data feeds
- Experience creating sitemaps and related documentation of the content and data
- Ability to develop a metadata model and a tagging schema
- Experience with creating taxonomies and controlled vocabularies
- Understanding of the metadata on search engine optimization
- Experience defining business rules to govern relationships between content items
- Ability to architect both the front end and back end user interfaces
- Familiarity with W3C-WCAG and Section 508 compliance and their impact on site architecture
- Ability to analyze data and make recommendations on how to structure data
General:
- Ability to learn quickly, be a self-starter, and work within deadlines

- Strong conceptual and strategic thinking skills
Required Education and Experience
- At least 3-5 years in a IA/systems architecture position dealing with requirements and IA for web
- Excellent understanding of the overarching process of website development (discovery, planning, design, requirements, coding, testing, and evaluation)
- Excellent understanding of business logic
- Excellent written, verbal, and client service skills
- Working knowledge of open-source IT infrastructure, especially the LAMP stack
- Strong presentation skills
- Strong work ethic and ability to self-manage tasks
Desired Education and Experience
- Experience working with Drupal a huge plus
- Bachelors degree in a logic-based or library-science field preferred
- Ability to read but not necessarily code HTML, CSS, Javascript/jQuery, and PHP at a basic level
